Kia issuing its first major recall of 2024 over an odd potential road hazard: loose roof molding. More than 101,000 Carnival minivans and Sportage SUVs are involved.

Affected model years include 2022-24 Carnivals and 2023-24 Sportages. The cause of the potentially detachable roof moldings are either interference from the roof molding retaining clip(s) with excessive roof panel sealer or simple improper installation at vehicle assembly.

As a fix, dealers will inspect the roof molding and replace or secure it, as necessary, for free. Kia will begin sending owner notification letters March 15, but those with further questions in the meantime can call the company at 800-333-4542 (recall number SC292), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
