Of the two recalls Toyota issued Wednesday, one is for a fresh batch of more than 1 million vehicles that also includes Lexus, Toyota’s luxury brand.
Affected vehicles include the following Lexus models and model years:

2020-21 ES 350, RX 350, RX 450h
2020-22 ES 300h
2021 ES 250
Affected Toyotas include the following:

2020-21 Avalon, Avalon Hybrid, Corolla, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, RAV4, RAV4 Hybrid
2020-22 Camry, Camry Hybrid
2021 Sienna

The OCS sensors in the front-passenger seat could have been improperly manufactured, causing a short circuit. This would not allow the airbag system to properly gauge the occupant’s weight, and the airbag may not deploy as designed in certain crashes, increasing the risk of injury.

To resolve the issue, Toyota and Lexus dealers will inspect and replace the OCS sensors, as necessary, for free. Toyota will notify owners of affected vehicles by mid-February 2024, but those with questions in the meantime can contact Toyota at 800-331-4331 or Lexus at 800-255-3987, call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
