Production of the Hemi V-8 engine is winding down and Stellantis is charging into electrification in a big way — physically big, at least, if not in terms of sales volume. Stellantis brand Ram has announced its first production EV, the 2024 Ram ProMaster electric van.

Based on the gas-powered ProMaster, the ProMaster EV is initially available in a single configuration with a roll-up rear door and aimed at delivery services. Comparable to the longest wheelbase, longest body and highest roof in the ProMaster portfolio, the van reaches roughly 2 feet long and 8.5 feet tall. The cargo hold measures 524 cubic feet and can accommodate loads up to 13.5 feet long. To reduce energy used to heat the interior, the ProMaster EV includes a heated steering wheel and heated windshield as standard equipment.

Those specs are identical to the gas-powered ProMaster, though. What sets the 2024 ProMaster EV apart is the drivetrain. A 268-horsepower electric motor drives the front wheels and generates 302 pounds-feet of torque. It draws electricity from a 110-kilowatt-hour battery pack integrated into the vehicle structure beneath the load floor, providing up to an estimated 162 miles of range, according to Ram. The ProMaster EV has four levels of DC fast-charging capability, ranging from 50 to 150 kilowatts, as well as an optional 11-kW Level 2 charger.

The delivery model will eventually be joined by two cargo configurations with standard side-hinged rear doors, both based on the same 159-inch wheelbase as the delivery van. Differing body (and rear overhang) lengths will give those either a 13.5-foot cargo area or a slightly shorter one measuring 12 feet. The cargo version will also be available with two different roof heights, bringing the ProMaster EV’s number of body configurations to five.

Standard and Available Safety Features
For a commercial van, the 2024 Ram ProMaster EV includes a generous roster of advanced driver-assist systems. Standard equipment includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, crosswind assist, driver attention monitor, road-sign recognition and rear parking sensors. Front parking sensors, a digital rearview mirror and a 360-degree camera system are available, as is Active Driving Assist, which combines adaptive cruise control and lane-centering steering to provide hands-on Level 2 autonomous driving.

The 2024 Ram ProMaster Electric Van is available to order now. Pricing starts at $79,990 (includes $1,995 destination).
