Ford is expanding a previous recall from November 2023 to include over 42,000 examples of its mid-size Bronco Sport and Escape SUVs for an issue with the fuel injector that could result in fuel leakage and under-hood fires.

Affected vehicles include model-year 2022-23 Bronco Sports and model-year 2022 Escapes.

The fuel injectors in the affected vehicles may crack, allowing fuel or vapor to leak and accumulate near ignition sources, increasing the risk of an under-hood fire. If there is a fuel leak, there may be a fuel odor both inside and outside the vehicle.

Dealers will install a drain tube and update the engine control software to include fuel injector leak detection for free. Ford will notify vehicle owners in April, but owners can contact the automaker’s customer service at 866-436-7332 (Ford’s number for this recall is 24S16), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
