Ford is recalling more than 552,000 examples of its F-150 pickup truck over an issue with the transmission that could result in a loss of control.

Affected vehicles include model-year 2014 F-150s only. The issue specifically involves a loss of signal between the transmission output shaft speed sensor and powertrain control module, resulting in an expected downshift into 1st gear regardless of what speed the truck is traveling at.

To resolve the issue, dealers will update the powertrain control module for free. Ford will notify owners July 1, but those with further questions can contact the automaker at 866-436-7332 (Ford’s number for this recall is 24S37), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
