Volkswagen recall, this one over airbag-related concerns. More than 271,000 of its Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs are involved.

Specifically affected are model-year 2020-24 Atlas Cross Sport two-row SUVs and model-year 2021-24 Atlas three-row SUVs. The passenger occupant detection system may experience a fault in the wiring and deactivate the front passenger airbag when the seat is occupied, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

To resolve the issue, dealers will replace the system sensor mat and wiring harness for free.

VW will notify owners Aug. 16, but those with further questions can contact the automaker at 800-893-5298 (Volkswagen’s number for this recall is 69PZ), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
