Introduction to the 2025 GMC Terrain
In the midst of a comprehensive showroom refresh, GMC has turned its attention to the compact SUV segment with the 2025 Terrain. Mechanically similar to the Chevrolet Equinox, the new Terrain aims to distinguish itself with a more upscale interior, advanced electronics, and a premium driving experience. This marks a significant improvement over the outgoing model as GMC strives for greater differentiation among its brand offerings.
Updated Trims and New Look
The 2025 GMC Terrain sees a streamlined trim lineup. The previous SLE and SLT trims have been consolidated into a new base trim called Elevation, which includes more standard features. Additional trims include the AT4 off-road variant and the luxury-oriented Denali. The vehicle’s restyling efforts provide it with a wider, more assertive appearance. Contrary to expectations, it does not mimic the Acadia but instead borrows design cues from the Canyon mid-size pickup truck, featuring a distinctive ‘X-wing’ grille.
Interior Overhaul and Advanced Technology
The most extensive changes are found inside the 2025 Terrain. The cabin now features a horizontally oriented dashboard design, a reconfigurable 11-inch digital display in place of the traditional gauge cluster, and a 15-inch central touchscreen. These enhancements elevate the Terrain above its Chevrolet Equinox counterpart. Standard across all trims is a Google-based infotainment system, and new optional features include rain-sensing wipers, a power liftgate, a rearview camera mirror, and wireless device charging.
Powertrains and Performance
Under the hood, the 2025 Terrain retains the turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, offering 175 horsepower. However, torque ratings vary based on the drivetrain configuration. The standard front-wheel-drive Elevation model comes with a continuously variable automatic transmission, while all-wheel-drive models feature a more robust eight-speed automatic transmission. The AT4 and Denali trims come standard with all-wheel drive and specialized suspension setups suited for their respective purposes.
Pricing and Availability
Pricing details for the 2025 GMC Terrain will be announced closer to its release. The Elevation trim is expected to arrive in late 2024, with the AT4 and Denali versions following in 2025. Given the myriad improvements and new features, prospective buyers can anticipate a justified increase in pricing over previous models.
