Introduction: A New Milestone for Bentley

Bentley is set to make headlines on September 10 with the debut of its reimagined Flying Spur, which now boasts a 771-horsepower plug-in hybrid V-8 powertrain. This highly anticipated release follows Bentley’s confirmation in July that the new Flying Spur would adopt this impressive powertrain, merging luxury and ultra performance.

Unveiling the Ultra Performance Hybrid

The new powertrain, described by Bentley as the ‘ultra performance hybrid,’ features a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 engine coupled with an electric motor. The V-8 itself delivers 584 horsepower, while the electric motor adds 187 horsepower, resulting in a combined output of 771 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. A noticeable technological advancement, this system includes a 25.9-kWh battery, providing up to 51 miles of electric-only driving range based on the European WLTP test cycle. Realistically, the EPA estimates it to be closer to 40 miles.

Technological Continuity Across the Volkswagen Group

The powerful hybrid system making its way into the Flying Spur is not entirely new. It’s a familiar setup seen in the refreshed Continental GT and other models within the Volkswagen Group. For instance, the plug-in hybrid Lamborghini Urus SE and the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid both utilize similar powertrains. Despite its widespread use, each application is finely tuned to fit the unique characteristics of its vehicle, promising a tailored driving experience.

A Glimpse into the Future: The Facelifted Flying Spur

Beyond its jaw-dropping powertrain, details surrounding the facelifted Bentley Flying Spur remain mostly under wraps. Bentley has released a teaser image that hints at a subtly updated front end design, leaving enthusiasts and critics alike eagerly awaiting further disclosures. The company assures that more comprehensive information will be revealed ‘in due course.’

As the automotive world watches in anticipation, this new iteration of the Flying Spur signifies Bentley’s unwavering commitment to innovation and luxury, promising an unforgettable experience for those fortunate enough to get behind the wheel.
