Overview of the GM Recall

General Motors is facing another significant recall affecting approximately 462,000 diesel trucks and SUVs. This recall is reminiscent of a previous one issued in September but centers around a different issue. The primary concern arises from a potential failure of the transmission control valve, which could lead to severe safety risks for drivers.

Affected Vehicles

The recall will impact several model-year vehicles, specifically the diesel variants of the 2020-2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2500, and 3500, alongside their GMC counterparts, the Sierra 1500, 2500, and 3500. Additionally, the recall includes model-year 2021 Cadillac Escalades and Escalade ESVs, as well as Chevrolet Suburbans, Tahoes, and GMC Yukons and Yukon XLs.

Potential Risks and Solutions

The primary danger linked to the transmission control valve failure is the sudden locking of rear wheels, which significantly heightens the risk of accidents. In response, GM is taking action by installing new transmission control module software free of charge. Furthermore, GM will also provide a special coverage program to address repairs for transmissions identified by the remedy software as defective. Owners will start receiving notifications about the recall from December 9 onwards. They can contact General Motors at 800-462-8782 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 888-327-4236 for inquiries regarding their vehicle identification number and learn more about this process.
