An Overview of the Last 300 SL Gullwing

The final Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing ever built is not only a piece of automotive history but also a stunning red supercar valued at $3.5 million. As proclaimed by RM Sotheby’s, this specific model—completed on May 15, 1957—holds the unique distinction of being the last of 1,400 300 SL Gullwings ever produced.

Unique Features of the Gullwing

This extraordinary vehicle was custom-made for the 1957 Poznań International Trade Fair, notably featuring a ‘fire engine red’ finish contrasting the traditional silver. Inside, it hosts a luxurious cream leather interior. Retaining its original specifications, including the chassis, engine, and axles, this Gullwing provides a rare glimpse into the craftsmanship of the era.

The Astonishing Auction Expectations

As the last example of its kind, the 300 SL Gullwing is set to make headlines at an auction in Nevada on November 22. RM Sotheby’s has estimated that it could fetch between $2.5 million and $3.5 million. Designed with a spaceframe chassis akin to its racing predecessor, the W194, and powered by a racing-derived engine producing approximately 215bhp, the 300 SL Gullwing was the fastest production car of its time and is regarded as the world’s first ‘super’ car.
