Introduction to the Audi Q6 e-tron Off-Road Concept

Last fall, our spy photographers captured an intriguing prototype of the Audi Q6 e-tron. This high-riding vehicle showcased the body of a Q6 e-tron sportback, but with enhanced features including chunky tires and a robust roof rack. Recently, Audi has officially unveiled the Q6 e-tron off-road concept, which combines electric mobility with off-road capabilities.

Advanced Suspension with Portal Axles

The standout feature of the Q6 e-tron off-road concept is its innovative suspension system, fitted with four portal axles. These axles, integrated into the wheel hub assemblies, necessitated a complete reengineering of the suspension links. Audi has developed these portal axles from the ground up, allowing for a substantial increase in torque at the wheel — reportedly by 50 percent, compared to traditional designs. The total torque output at the wheels can reach an impressive 9883 pound-feet during a 10-second burst.

Unmatched Off-Road Capability

With a rise in ride height by 6.3 inches and a broader 9.8-inch track, the Q6 e-tron off-road concept is designed for challenging terrains, enabling it to tackle gradients as steep as 45 degrees. Powered by a dual-motor electric setup generating 510 horsepower, this SUV may have a capped top speed of 108 mph, yet that is ample for exhilarating off-road adventures. Audi’s CEO, Gernot Döllner, indicates this prototype may lead to a limited-production model, emphasizing the company’s ongoing commitment to expanding its off-road SUV lineup.
