Introduction to Hyundai’s Charging Program

In September 2024, Hyundai introduced a significant initiative aimed at enhancing the convenience for 2025 Ioniq 5 buyers. Originally limited to high-performance Ioniq 5 N models, the program has now been expanded to include all 2025 Ioniq 5 variants. Buyers now have the opportunity to select between a complimentary Level 2 home charging station or a 0 credit applicable at select public charging stations.

Details of the Charging Options

The modified program clarifies that the credit can be redeemed through the ChargePoint mobile app, which connects users to the largest public charging network in the U.S. With nearly 67,000 charging plugs across over 37,000 locations, ChargePoint provides ample options for electric vehicle (EV) owners. It is important to note that the credits must be utilized within two years from activation.

Home Charging vs. Public Charging Costs

The decision between a home charger and public charging might seem straightforward; however, potential buyers should consider various factors. The ChargePoint Home Flex Level 2 unit is priced at $549, but buyers are responsible for installation costs, which can range significantly. Reports indicate installation expenses for Level 2 chargers can fluctuate between $995 and $6,170, depending on home specifics.

While public charging might hit your wallet harder, home charging often proves cheaper and more convenient in the long run. As incentives for EV adoption like Hyundai’s program could be vital as the federal EV tax credit’s future becomes uncertain, those considering an electric vehicle should carefully examine available offers that can enhance their purchasing experience.
