Overview of the Recall

Ford Motor Company has announced a major recall affecting over 149,000 models of its Bronco SUV, specifically addressing an issue with the rear shock absorbers. This recall comes on the heels of a previous one involving the Escape-based Bronco Sport SUV and the Maverick pickup truck, highlighting ongoing safety concerns within the manufacturer’s vehicle lineup.

Details of the Issue

The affected vehicles include 2021-2024 model-year Broncos equipped with the Badlands trim or Sasquatch package. The concern is related to corrosion that may develop at the junction of the external shock reservoir, mounting flange, and damper body. If this corrosion persists, it could potentially lead to the separation of the external shock reservoir from the vehicle, posing a significant road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.

Next Steps for Owners

As of now, a remedy for the issue has not been established. However, Ford will begin mailing interim notices to vehicle owners starting February 3. A follow-up notice will be issued once a solution is available. In the meantime, owners can seek additional information by contacting Ford at 866-436-7332. For further assistance, inquiries can also be directed to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or through their official website where vehicle identification number checks can be made.
