The RAM Power Wagon has long been a staple for off-road enthusiasts seeking a robust and capable heavy-duty pickup truck. Traditionally equipped with a gas-powered 6.4-liter V8 engine, the Power Wagon has stood out in a field where competitors like Ford and GM offer diesel options. Recent conversations with RAM’s powertrain engineers have sparked speculation about the potential for a diesel variant to join the Power Wagon lineup.

Customer Demand for Diesel Options

Interestingly, there has been a noticeable uptick in customer demand for a diesel version of the Power Wagon. Enthusiasts have been vocal about their desire for more torque and improved towing capabilities, making the introduction of a Cummins diesel option an appealing consideration for RAM. As one engineer noted, “We hear what’s going on. If there’s an opportunity there, then we can engineer it.” This statement indicates that while there aren’t any immediate plans for the 2025 model year, the possibility exists depending on consumer interest.

Current Engine Specifications and Performance

At present, the Power Wagon remains powered solely by the HEMI V8 engine, which produces 405 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. While these numbers are respectable and suitable for off-road situations, they don’t quite match the offerings from RAM’s refined 6.7-liter Cummins turbo-diesel, which boasts 430 horsepower and an impressive 1075 pound-feet of torque. This significant difference highlights the appeal of a diesel option for buyers who prioritize off-road performance and heavy-duty capabilities.

In conclusion, while the incorporation of a diesel engine in the RAM Power Wagon is not imminent, customer demand and engineering possibilities suggest that the idea is being taken seriously. Enthusiasts will be keeping a close eye on RAM’s developments and future offerings in hopes of seeing a diesel option in the Power Wagon lineup.
