Overview of the Recall

General Motors (GM) is taking precautionary measures by recalling more than 90,000 Cadillac and Chevrolet vehicles due to a critical transmission issue. The affected models include the 2020-2021 Cadillac CT4 and CT5 sedans, the 2019-2020 Cadillac CT6 sedan, and the 2020-2022 Chevrolet Camaro performance coupe. Each of these vehicles is equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission, which poses a potential risk to drivers.

Identified Transmission Problems

The primary concern arises from a malfunction within the transmission control valve. Over time, this component may experience excessive wear, which can lead to harsh shifting conditions. The severity of this issue can increase to the point where the front wheels may unexpectedly lock up. This represents a significant safety risk, elevating the likelihood of a crash and urging swift action from the manufacturer.

Remediation Steps and Contact Information

As part of the recall efforts, GM will provide dealerships with the necessary software to install in affected vehicles at no cost to the owners. Notification letters are expected to be dispatched starting April 21, and vehicle owners with questions or concerns can reach out directly to Cadillac at 800-333-4223 or Chevrolet at 800-222-1020. For additional assistance, inquiries can also be directed to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at 888-327-4236, or by visiting their website to check the vehicle identification number and gather further details about this recall.
