Embracing Change: The Importance of Upgrades

After the most significant update of the season, Ferrari appears to be steering in a more positive direction. Picking up valuable points in Bahrain, the team showcased an interesting blend of pace and strategy. However, let us take a closer look at the performance data, particularly focusing on the controversial new floor upgrade.

Unearthing the Truth: Charles Leclerc vs. Lewis Hamilton

Initial impressions of the upgraded Ferrari SF-25 were anything but rosy. Charles Leclerc, on the first day of race weekend, expressed clear frustration, casting doubts on whether the previous issues had truly been addressed. Despite Hamilton’s view that the upgrades were functioning, the performance gains appeared to be barely perceptible. Strikingly, Hamilton faced challenges during qualifying, with Leclerc capitalizing and securing a commendable P2, while Hamilton limped to P9, nearly six-tenths behind his teammate.

Strategic Decisions: The Medium Compound Gamble

When the lights went out at the Bahrain Grand Prix, Ferrari’s unique strategy stood out as both drivers opted for medium tyres while most of the grid chose softs. This critical choice led to an immediate setback, with Leclerc losing positions on the opening lap. Despite a commendable effort in maintaining pace over the first ten laps, rivals Piastri and Russell, starting on softer compounds, clearly outperformed Leclerc and set the prevailing tone for the race.

As the dust settles from Bahrain, one thing is clear: Ferrari’s path forward is fraught with challenges. Yet, with their recent upgrades and strategic adjustments, there is hope for a brighter performance horizon.
