Introduction to Nissan’s Solid State Battery

Nissan is setting its sights on launching an innovative all-solid state battery (ASSB) by the end of the fiscal year 2028. This announcement was made by executives during a recent technology preview event held in Japan, highlighting the automaker’s commitment to advancing electric vehicle (EV) technology. Shunichi Inamijima, Nissan’s vice president for the powertrain and EV engineering division, conveyed the excitement surrounding this project, stating, “That’s our ambition.”

Engineering Progress and Future Models

The timeline for this ambitious project is indeed aggressive. Nissan is currently in the final stages of engineering the solid state battery pack and will soon shift its focus to integrating these batteries into vehicles. Although there might be an expectation of earlier demand for electric vehicles, the reality has necessitated some adjustments in their launch timeline.

Anticipated Applications of the Solid State Battery

Once introduced, Nissan plans to integrate its solid state battery technology into various models, starting with electric vehicles followed by hybrid versions of its large SUVs. The company’s strategic approach not only addresses the growing EV market but also positions Nissan as a leader in battery innovation. With fiscal 2028’s end on March 31, 2029, the stakes are high for a remarkable transition in the automotive landscape.
