Introduction to Tesla’s New Rear-Drive Model Y

Tesla has officially introduced a new rear-drive version of its popular Model Y compact electric SUV, which is now available in the U.S. market. This new model is priced starting at $46,630, making it a more affordable option compared to its all-wheel-drive (AWD) counterparts. With the addition of this variant, Tesla continues to expand its electric vehicle offerings while enhancing accessibility for consumers.

Range and Performance Updates

One of the notable features of the rear-drive Model Y is its extended range. This variant boasts an EPA estimated range exceeding 350 miles on a full charge, specifically rated at 357 miles, which surpasses the dual-motor version by about 30 miles. However, performance is slightly affected, as the new rear-drive model achieves a 0 to 60 mph time of 5.4 seconds, a bit slower than the 4.6 seconds for its AWD sibling. This trade-off between range and acceleration is important for potential buyers to consider.

Pricing and Availability

Priced at $46,630, the rear-drive Model Y represents a $4,000 savings compared to the long-range AWD model. This pricing strategy not only attracts a wider customer base but also emphasizes Tesla’s commitment to providing competitive electric vehicle options. Current estimates suggest that deliveries for the new model will occur within three to five weeks of order placement on Tesla’s consumer site, allowing early adopters to experience this latest offering swiftly.
