In a significant stride towards sustainability, MAN, a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, is set to unveil its all-electric Lion’s Coach E this October. This cutting-edge coach is designed to deliver everything a traditional diesel coach offers, but with zero-emission benefits, marking a noteworthy advancement in eco-friendly public transportation.
Impressive Specifications
The MAN Lion’s Coach E will feature a robust battery pack ranging between 356 to 536 kilowatt-hours, boasting an impressive estimated driving range of up to 403 miles (650 kilometers) on a full charge. The coach’s noteworthy drag coefficient of 0.31 is comparable to that of a compact SUV, enhancing its aerodynamic performance. With dimensions of 45.6 feet (19.3 meters) and the capacity to comfortably seat up to 61 passengers along with their luggage, it ensures practicality meets innovation.
Future of Urban Mobility
While the production of the Lion’s Coach E will commence next year at MAN’s Ankara factory in Turkey, the advancements in electric bus technology signal a promising future for urban mobility. Designed for versatility, this electric coach is ideal for shuttle services, work transport, and city trips, accommodating driver resting periods with its 375 kW maximum charging rate. Although exact charging durations are yet to be confirmed, initial estimates suggest that a full charge could take around one hour for the smaller battery and nearly two hours for the larger pack, optimizing its availability for passenger transport.
