The Emergence of the Slate Truck

The Slate Truck, priced at an attractive $28,000, is set to revolutionize the electric vehicle (EV) market. Built at a former printing plant in Warsaw, Indiana, this innovative vehicle marks a significant turn for both Slate Auto and the electric pickup segment. This 1.4-million-square-foot factory, operational until 2023 as a printing facility, is being retooled to cater to the production needs of this spartan EV startup.

Production Facility Details

Slate’s choice of the Indiana location emphasizes a commitment to localized production. The workspace encompasses two extensive production areas of about 600,000 square feet each, alongside ample office space. While the specifics regarding the exact operational area have not been disclosed, this industrial heritage sets a reliable foundation for Slate’s automotive ambitions.

Key Features of the Slate Truck

The Slate Truck is designed for simplicity and adaptability. Customers can choose between two battery sizes: a standard 47-kWh battery offering a range of 150 miles or a larger 75-kWh battery that extends the range to approximately 240 miles. True to its spartan ethos, the vehicle includes manual features such as roll-down windows and adjustable rearview mirrors. Notably, it lacks an infotainment system, opting instead for a docking setup for personal devices.

Furthermore, buyers will have access to over 100 accessories to personalize their Slate Truck. From customizable vinyl wraps to factory lift and lowering kits, the possibilities for modification are extensive. With delivery anticipated by late 2026, the Slate Truck’s unique appeal lies in its blend of affordability and choice, positioning itself as a forward-thinking option in the electric vehicle landscape.
