The Return of Mitsubishi Electric Vehicles

Mitsubishi Motors is gearing up to re-enter the electric vehicle (EV) market in North America next summer. After a nearly decade-long hiatus following the discontinuation of the i-MiEV in 2017, this new electric vehicle marks a significant step for the brand. Mitsubishi plans to leverage its long-standing partnership with Nissan to ensure the successful introduction of this model.

A New Addition to the Lineup

The new EV will enhance Mitsubishi’s portfolio, which already includes internal combustion engines and plug-in hybrids. According to Mark Chaffin, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America, “The addition of this new battery-electric vehicle to our lineup will deliver a blend of options for our customers.” This electric crossover will be based on the latest generation of the Nissan Leaf, becoming Mitsubishi’s fifth crossover model in the U.S., following the Outlander and Eclipse Cross.

What to Expect from the New Electric Crossover

Details regarding the technical specifications and the name of the EV are yet to be unveiled. However, we can anticipate features similar to the Nissan Leaf, including a Tesla-designed North American Charging Standard (NACS) port and an aerodynamic design. The new EV is expected to offer an attractive alternative to competitors like the Chevrolet Equinox EV.

As Mitsubishi embarks on this electrifying journey, it also aligns with its broader Momentum 2030 business plan, which aims to introduce a new or significantly revised vehicle each year until 2030. Exciting times lie ahead for Mitsubishi enthusiasts.
