Revolutionizing EV Charging with Lampposts

Voltpost, a New York-based startup, has achieved a significant milestone by launching Michigan’s first publicly available lamppost charger for electric vehicles (EVs). Founded with the vision of transforming existing infrastructure, Voltpost has created a solution that allows cities to retrofit standard street lights with modular level 2 chargers. This innovative approach means that any urban street can now provide EV charging without the need for expensive upgrades or bulky hardware.

Strategic Locations for Accessibility

The initial installment of this lamppost charger is located at the American Center for Mobility in Ypsilanti Township, situated near significant landmarks such as Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan. This represents just the beginning of Voltpost’s expansion, as 11 additional installations are scheduled for various strategic spots throughout the Detroit area later this year. The recent activation of the first lamppost charger in Oak Park, Illinois, underscores the startup’s commitment to enhancing accessibility to EV charging for all communities.

A Step Toward Sustainable Mobility

According to Jeffrey Prosserman, the CEO and co-founder of Voltpost, deploying these chargers is a pivotal movement towards making EV charging more equitable and available. He emphasized that the collaboration with ACM establishes a foundation for a cleaner, more integrated mobility future in Detroit, which is recognized as the nation’s hub for transportation innovation. Each lamppost charger can power two to four EVs simultaneously and can be installed in under an hour, presenting a practical solution for long-term parking scenarios.
