Introduction to the E-GMP Platform

The Hyundai Motor Group has made significant strides in the electric vehicle (EV) landscape, particularly with its E-GMP platform. This advanced architecture allows for rapid charging capabilities, establishing models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 as charging powerhouses. The Ioniq 5 can achieve a 10-80% charge in roughly 20 minutes, outpacing many luxury competitors.

The All-New Hyundai Ioniq 9

The latest addition to this platform, the Hyundai Ioniq 9, is now on the market and promising strong charging performance. According to a recent test, the Ioniq 9 managed to charge from 10-80% in under 24 minutes. This impressive feat aligns with the manufacturer’s claims of enhanced charging speed, backed by a peak charging rate of 243 kilowatts.

Understanding Charging Compatibility and Performance

One notable aspect of the Ioniq 9 is its use of a Tesla-style North American Charging System (NACS) port. This feature provides native access to Tesla Supercharger stations. However, it does come with a caveat: charging times may be longer on Tesla chargers due to the Ioniq 9’s unique 800-volt architecture. This system allows for higher wattage and efficiency, but when interfacing with 400-volt chargers, complications can arise. These challenges emphasize the advantages of higher-voltage platforms, which many competitors, including Tesla, have yet to embrace fully.

The future looks promising for the Hyundai Ioniq 9, especially as charging infrastructure evolves. As new high-voltage charging systems emerge, owners can expect even better performance metrics for their Ioniq 9.
