Current Electric Vehicle Offerings

As of now, the choices for GM fans looking for electric vehicles (EVs) with modern connectivity features are limited to just two: the GMC Hummer EV and the Cadillac Lyriq. Both of these vehicles currently support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. However, a significant change is on the horizon as GM intends to phase out these popular connectivity options.

The Transition to Google-Based Infotainment

GM is making a bold move by opting for an in-house Google-based infotainment system. The company believes that this shift will empower drivers with more control and a highly integrated experience in future EVs. While many automakers are also exploring subscription-based features and software enhancements, GM’s strategy to implement an in-house system marks a notable departure from its past offerings.

Exciting Developments in Australia and New Zealand

As GM rolls out its new connected services, Cadillac is leading the charge in Australia and New Zealand with a fresh offering that showcases Google built-in. This innovative service will provide a suite of connectivity features, including a mobile app and over-the-air updates. Jess Bala, managing director of GM Australia and New Zealand, emphasized that users will gain the latest Google services, such as Google Maps and Google Assistant.

Moreover, the Cadillac Lyriq and its variants will continue to offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for all models in the Australian and New Zealand market. As Cadillac prepares to launch new models next year, including the Optiq and Vistiq, it seems that the brand is keen to balance advanced tech with familiar conveniences.
