Overview of the Triumph Scrambler 400 XC

The latest addition to the Triumph lineup, the Scrambler 400 XC, has been unveiled with an off-road styling that enhances its retro appeal. This model builds upon the existing A2-friendly Scrambler 400, now featuring tubeless spoked wheels and updated bodywork. With a price point of £6,545, it is £600 more than its sibling, the Scrambler 400 X, and is set to hit UK dealers in September.

Performance and Design Features

Both bikes share the same robust tubular steel hybrid frame and the reliable 398cc liquid-cooled TR-series single-cylinder engine, producing a claimed 39.5bhp at 8000rpm and 27.7lb.ft of torque at 6500rpm. The Scrambler 400 XC maintains the six-speed gearbox and torque-assist clutch, alongside non-adjustable 43mm big piston USD forks providing 150mm of travel. However, where the XC distinguishes itself is in its rugged design enhancements, featuring spoked side-laced Excel hoops and Metzeler Karoo street tyres.

Specifications and User-Friendly Aspects

Admittedly, while the new Scrambler boasts a more durable appearance, it remains tarmac-focused with a 17/19-inch wheel configuration. Additional features include a high-mounted colour-matched mudguard, aluminum sump guard, handguards, and a compact flyscreen. Both new and seasoned riders will appreciate the user-friendly specifications, including an analogue speedo with an integrated LCD screen, ride-by-wire throttle, switchable traction control, and off-road ABS mode. With a wet weight of 186kg and a seat height of 835mm, the Triumph Scrambler 400 XC stands as an accessible option for several rider levels.

Triumph’s chief commercial officer, Paul Stroud, emphasized the model’s demand across global markets, hoping to cater to a wider audience and expand the brand’s appeal for future generations. With over 20 factory accessories available at launch, the Scrambler 400 XC is poised to become a favorite among motorcycling enthusiasts.
