Exploring the e-Astr’s Innovative Design

Last week, we reported on the arrival of the TQ HPR40 motor, which is garnering attention for being one of the lightest and most efficient e-bike motors on the market today. The newly released Ridley e-Astr is among the first gravel e-bikes to utilize this cutting-edge technology. Adding a mere 1.17 kg (2.6 lb) at the crank, its sophisticated design ensures that the bike maintains an appearance closely resembling its non-electric counterpart.

Performance Meets Aesthetics

The integration of the TQ HPR40 motor in the e-Astr not only serves a functional purpose but does so without compromising the sleek lines of Ridley’s original Astr gravel bike. The system discreetly houses a 290 Wh battery in the downtube, making it nearly invisible to the eye. Bikerumor highlights that upon closer inspection, one might only notice a slightly fatter downtube, internal cable routing, and a handlebar-end LED indicator, which indicate the bike’s electric capabilities without broadcasting them to onlookers.

Ride Experience and Specifications

The e-Astr provides a natural feel while riding, as the HPR40 motor delivers a modest 40 Nm of torque and up to 200W of assistance. This allows riders to tackle climbs effortlessly and enjoy smooth gravel rides at speeds up to 25 km/h (15.5 mph). Available in three different specifications, Ridley presents the e-Astr with various high-quality drivetrains, carbon wheels, and industry-standard gravel brakes. With this approach, Ridley is redefining performance in the e-bike segment, proving you can enhance the ride experience without overshadowing the rider.
