DPD’s Green Adventure

In a bold move that has transportation nerds buzzing, DPD is testing out a heavy-duty electric yard tractor from Terberg at its sprawling logistics hub in Oldbury, UK. This trial isn’t just for kicks; it’s a vital step towards a cleaner, greener fleet strategy. With over 50 yard hostlers, or as we like to call them, ‘tugs,’ DPD is very much aware that the future needs to be electric – and preferably without choking on the exhaust fumes of their beloved diesel tractors.

The Mighty Terberg

Enter the Royal Terberg YT203-EV! This electric tug is not just a pretty battery; it’s equipped with a pair of 78 kWh batteries (talk about electrifying!) and can be juiced up to an astonishing 236 kWh. Interestingly, despite being fitted with “just” 156 kWh, this powerhouse boasts a running time that rivals its diesel counterparts – nearly a full 24 hours on a single charge. Tim Jones from DPD summed it up nicely: “Our drivers were really impressed, especially with ease of use and driver comfort.” Who knew a tug could be so suave?

Charging Towards Sustainability

DPD’s mission to decarbonize its fleet is commendable, and they’re not just daydreaming about it. Working closely with Terberg, they are engaging their drivers in providing real-time feedback, ensuring that every bit of knowledge gained contributes to a more sustainable operation. Peter Giles from Terberg DTS aptly noted that while the YT203-EV is flexible and effective, every operation is unique. With the buzz from the drivers and the impressive performance of the electric tug, DPD is keen on charting a path to a net-zero emissions future.
