Zoox’s driverless cars, which lack traditional pedals and a steering wheel, demonstrated enough safety capabilities to satisfy the regulatory body. However, the exemption applies only to a specific fleet of vehicles currently on public roads.
Future of Zoox’s Operations
While this exemption is a significant step for Zoox, it doesn’t permit the company to operate its robotaxis commercially. With plans to produce up to 10,000 driverless cabs per year from its new factory in Hayward, California, Zoox’s journey continues.
