Charging Up California

California is officially the new land of electric vehicles (EVs), boasting a staggering 201,180 public and shared EV charger ports across the state. That’s a whopping 68% more than those pesky gasoline nozzles! Governor Gavin Newsom recently announced this electrifying update as part of the state’s transition to a greener, zero-emission future. In fact, nearly one in four new trucks sold this week were zero-emission models, signaling that EVs are not just a trend—they’re here to stay!

Convenience at Your Fingertips

What’s that? You want to charge your car while you grocery shop? No problemo! California’s public EV chargers can be found in grocery store lots, parking garages, workplaces, sports arenas, and even gas stations. Yes, you read that right! Even gas stations are hopping on the electric bandwagon. And with roughly 800,000 home chargers already installed in single-family homes, charging your EV has never been easier. According to CEC Commissioner Nancy Skinner, ‘Driving an EV should be a no-brainer for Californians!’ They don’t need oil changes and thank heavens for no smog!

Onward and Upward

As California amps up its EV charger installation speed, it’s also boosting efforts with various grant programs aimed at making public, workplace, and even at-home charging more accessible, especially in multifamily housing. With heavy-duty vehicles responsible for a chunk of California’s emissions, the recent addition of 20,093 charging and hydrogen fueling points is a game-changer. Let’s face it—California isn’t just paving the road to a cleaner future; it’s electrifying it!
