Introducing the Quasar 2 Charger

Wallbox has made a significant stride in the electric vehicle (EV) landscape with the residential installation of its Quasar 2 bidirectional charger. This innovative technology allows Kia EV9 owners to utilize their vehicles as home power sources, marking a pivotal moment in the push for sustainable energy solutions.

The Pilot Program in Menifee, California

In collaboration with Kia America and the University of California, Irvine, six Quasar 2 units were installed in Menifee, California. This pilot program aims to introduce vehicle-to-home (V2H) technology to everyday households, showcasing how EVs can serve as energy assets that help reduce costs and strengthen the power grid.

How It Works

The Quasar 2 charger not only charges compatible electric vehicles but also enables these vehicles to transfer electricity back into the home. Homeowners can draw energy from their car batteries during peak-rate hours, effectively lowering their utility bills. Additionally, in case of outages, EVs can keep the lights on, showcasing their dual functionality.

As Douglas Alfaro, Wallbox’s Chief Business Development Officer, aptly stated, “This is more than a technology milestone. It is a glimpse into a future where every EV is an energy asset.” The pilot highlights a transformative future where EVs contribute not just to mobility but to household energy resilience, independence, and sustainability, paving the way for a cleaner, greener tomorrow.
