Charging into the Future

Hold onto your electric hats, Wisconsin! Our beloved state is getting a massive boost in DC fast charging thanks to a cool $14 million in recovered federal grants. That’s right, this funding is thanks to the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program. Here’s the kicker: this money comes straight out of President Joe Biden’s bipartisan infrastructure law, proving once again that good things come to those who wait—or in this case, fight.

Legal Battles and Victory Smiles

If you thought courtroom dramas were just for TV, think again! Governor Tony Evers joined forces with a few other states to wrestle back over $60 million that Wisconsin was owed. After a legal tussle that would make any lawyer proud, a federal judge stepped in, blocking the Trump administration’s attempts to block NEVI funding back in June. The result? Planned NEVI EV charging projects are full steam ahead! Talk about a plot twist!

Charging Stations Galore!

The initial awards dropped $22.4 million to build 52 projects, and it looks like the EV enthusiasm is only growing. Eleven of those chargers are already up and running, while another sweet sixteen are about to start construction. Now, with these 26 new charging stations strategically placed along Wisconsin’s alternative fuel corridor—think convenience stores, restaurants, and grocery stores—we’re painting the map green for our more than 37,000 EV drivers. The future is bright and fast, with a minimum of 150 kW per port—vroom vroom!
