Honda’s EV Ambition
Honda is revving up its plans to join the race for affordable electric vehicles (EVs), proving that even the giants are taking note of the under $30,000 party. According to Toshihiro Mibe, Honda’s CEO, the main competition in the U.S. is headed towards affordability, and Honda is definitely eyeing this lucrative market.

Super-One: The Tiny Titan
Introducing the Super-One, a pint-sized prototype that Honda recently unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show! While this electrifying little marvel may initially grace only markets like Japan and Europe, one can’t help but wonder if Honda’s game plan includes a homegrown version for us lucky U.S. residents. With a goal to keep prices under that sweet $30k barrier, Honda is laying its foundation for the future!
The Road Ahead for Honda
But don’t hold your breath; it seems we might be cruising toward the end of the decade before Honda’s affordable EVs hit the highways here. With incentives dwindling and market conditions shifting faster than a speeding Tesla, Mibe suggests that we won’t see those EVs rolling out until around 2030. Meanwhile, the company will focus on hybrids, unveiling their next-gen platform in 2027, which promises efficient performance without the rare-earth material hiccups.
So buckle up, EV enthusiasts! Honda may be a bit late to the party, but when they arrive, you can bet they’ll be bringing along some budget-friendly rides that won’t break the bank. Who knows? You might just find yourself saying, “I’ll take two!”
