Goodbye, RC 390!

It’s official! KTM has decided to pull the plug on the beloved RC 390, marking the end of over a decade of thrilling rides and racetrack dreams. The news has sent shockwaves through the motorcycling community, but let’s be honest—it’s a bit like breaking up with your high school sweetheart. It’s sad, but maybe we both need to grow up a bit.

What Happened?

The Austrian firm has cited a lack of demand for the single-cylinder sprinter, as the costs of updating its 373cc engine to meet Euro 5 emissions standards were a bitter pill to swallow. With prices already feeling the squeeze in several markets, the decision was a no-brainer for the bean counters at KTM.

Is There Hope? Maybe!

Fear not, RC 390 enthusiasts! While the bike will disappear from European and UK line-ups, it will still be alive and kicking in India, where it continues to gain traction. Thanks to the robust market there, KTM has opted to keep production going, possibly a nod to their roots with parent company Bajaj.

Launched in 2014 and revamped over the years, including a nifty TFT dash and lean-sensitive electronics in 2022, the RC 390 had its moments of glory. But as they say, every good thing must come to an end. So as we put our helmets down and salute the RC 390, let’s remember the thrill it brought and the adventures it will continue to allow in India!
