BMW Motorrad Tops 200,000 Global Sales Again as Riders Prioritize Versatility Over Volume

BMW Motorrad closed 2025 with 202,563 motorcycles delivered worldwide, clearing the 200,000-unit mark for the fourth consecutive year. The milestone comes in a softer global motorcycle market, with BMW shipping roughly 8,000 fewer bikes year over year—yet still outperforming many rivals amid cooling demand.

Several regions delivered record-breaking results, including Italy, Spain, Japan, Australia, Portugal, Canada, Malaysia, and the Netherlands. A strong finish helped offset broader headwinds: December sales reached 15,109 units, making it the third-best December in BMW Motorrad’s history and signaling resilient end-of-year demand.

Europe remains the backbone

Europe continued to anchor the brand, accounting for 118,814 registrations, a slight increase versus 2024. Germany remained BMW Motorrad’s single largest market with 25,516 units, followed by France (19,019), Italy (16,692), and Spain (14,005). Outside Europe, the United States (14,869), Brazil (14,488), and China (10,555) made meaningful contributions, underscoring BMW’s balanced global footprint across mature and growth markets.

Commenting on the results, BMW Motorrad CEO Markus Flasch noted that, despite a demanding environment, the company “played to its strengths,” citing technological leadership, brand focus, and an attractive product portfolio. Flasch added that these drivers underpin confidence heading into 2026.

What riders are choosing—and why

Sales trends point to a clear shift in rider priorities. BMW’s boxer-engined adventure models once again led the charge, reflecting demand for do-everything motorcycles that balance daily usability with long-distance touring and light off-road capability. The R1300GS Adventure topped the charts, closely followed by the R1300GS, with 32,555 units sold.

In uncertain economic conditions, riders appear to favor versatility and long-term value over niche specialization—choosing one bike that can commute, tour, and explore rather than multiple single-purpose machines. At the same time, performance hasn’t lost its appeal: BMW’s flagship superbike, the S1000RR, recorded 11,643 sales, proving there’s still room for aspirational, high-performance models when the product resonates.

BMW Motorrad’s 2025 performance reinforces a strategy of “value over volume.” Rather than chasing growth at all costs, the brand is capitalizing on clear strengths—engineering credibility, product breadth, and a loyal global customer base. As riders become more selective and markets normalize, that focus on durability, versatility, and brand trust positions BMW Motorrad for another steady year in 2026—even if the broader market remains cautious.
