Honda has confirmed a new safety recall in the United Kingdom affecting the latest generation of the Honda CBR600RR. According to the company, more than 1,000 units produced between the 2024 and 2026 model years could be affected by a potential issue related to excessive engine oil consumption.

The recall was officially confirmed by Honda UK, which explained that the problem may originate from the surface finish of the cylinder bore. In certain cases, the machining process used during manufacturing may have left a rougher-than-intended surface. Over time, this could lead to higher oil consumption as the engine operates.

While Honda emphasized that the issue appears to occur only in limited cases, the company has initiated the recall as a precautionary measure to ensure the continued safe operation of affected motorcycles.

Inspection First, Permanent Fix Later

Owners of affected bikes are currently being contacted by Honda and asked to bring their motorcycles to an authorized dealer. The initial inspection process is expected to take around one hour, during which technicians will check the engine condition and advise the rider on the next steps.

However, this first recall stage does not yet include a permanent repair. Instead, it allows technicians to identify affected motorcycles while Honda continues working on a final solution.

In the meantime, Honda has stated that dealerships will provide free oil top-ups for customers if needed while the long-term fix is being developed.

The CBR600RR’s return to the European market only happened recently. After disappearing from Europe in 2017 due to tightening emissions regulations, the iconic supersport model returned in 2024 with updated electronics and styling.

Powered by a 599cc inline-four engine, the CBR600RR produces roughly 108 horsepower at 14,000 rpm and 43.9 lb-ft of torque at 11,200 rpm, maintaining its reputation as a high-revving track-focused supersport motorcycle.

Another Recall for Honda in the UK

The CBR600RR recall follows closely behind another safety recall affecting the Honda CB1000 Hornet in the UK. In that case, owners reported excessive oil consumption as well, though the root cause is still under investigation.

Honda has indicated that the issue with the CB1000 Hornet may involve piston rings or piston specifications, which could allow oil to enter the combustion chamber under certain conditions.

Like the CBR600RR situation, the Hornet recall currently focuses on inspection and monitoring while engineers work to identify the underlying cause.

Interestingly, dealers in the UK are still allowed to sell both motorcycles during the recall period. However, customers must be informed of the issue before purchasing and asked to sign a document acknowledging the situation.

Final Thoughts

Recalls are never ideal for manufacturers, especially when they involve newly introduced models. However, they are also a normal part of the automotive and motorcycle industry, particularly as vehicles become more complex and highly engineered.

In my view, Honda’s decision to act quickly with a precautionary recall reflects a responsible approach to customer safety. While the oil consumption issue may affect only a small number of bikes, addressing it early helps protect both riders and the long-term reputation of one of the most iconic names in the supersport motorcycle world.
