Overview of the Recall

Ford has announced a significant recall affecting over 240,000 of its vehicles, specifically the 2020-2021 Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator models. This recall is due to a troubling safety concern involving improperly secured seat belt anchor bolts, which could lead to inadequate restraint of occupants during a crash. This situation underscores the importance of vehicle safety and manufacturers’ accountability.

Details of the Safety Issue

The primary concern relates to the seat belt buckle anchor bolts that may not have been properly secured during manufacturing. In addition to the buckle anchor bolts, the recall may also encompass issues with the seat belt retractor anchor bolt and the second-row center seat belt anchor bolt. If these components are loose, they could fail to restrain passengers effectively, thereby increasing the risk of injury in the event of an accident.

What Affected Owners Should Do

Ford plans to contact affected vehicle owners starting March 31. Owners are advised to remain vigilant and check whether their vehicles are included in the recall. The automaker will facilitate inspections and necessary replacement of the faulty components at no charge to the consumers. For further assistance, owners can reach out to Ford at 866-436-7332. Additionally, information can be obtained from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at 888-327-4236 or via their website to verify the vehicle identification number.
