Introduction to the V21L MotoE Racer

Ducati is set to showcase its latest advancements in the V21L MotoE racer at the upcoming season opener in Le Mans, France. As Ducati’s first electric race bike, the V21L is entering its third season in the FIM MotoE World Championship and promises significant updates aimed at elevating performance, agility, and rider control.

Innovations in Battery and Weight Reduction

At the core of Ducati’s enhancements is a revised battery pack utilizing high-density 5Ah cells, which replace the previous 4.2Ah cells. This innovation allows the team to reduce the battery’s cell count from 1152 to just 960, without compromising power or range. The new configuration results in an impressive weight reduction of 8.2 kg. Through simulations, Ducati engineers anticipate that this decrease could enhance lap times by three to four tenths, depending on the circuit.

Chassis and Electronic Upgrades

Notable changes extend beyond the battery, as the V21L features an extended wheelbase by 4mm, achieved through new steering bushings to enhance stability during braking maneuvers. Additionally, the swingarm pivot is now height-adjustable, granting teams greater control over chain pull and handling characteristics. A redesigned back wheel, which is 600g lighter and excludes a cush drive, promotes an increased level of nimbleness by reducing unsprung mass.

On the electronics front, Ducati has introduced the flexibility for riders to switch between three custom traction control maps throughout the race, allowing adjustments tailored to specific track segments. Experienced Ducati pilot Franco Battaini will conduct testing duties as the new official MotoE test rider, having already validated the updates on track. After Le Mans, the MotoE season will continue in Assen, Netherlands, starting on June 27.
