Liberty Media Receives Approval

In a significant move that is sure to reshape the landscape of motorcycle racing, Liberty Media has received unconditional approval from the European Commission to purchase Dorna Sports, the rights holder for MotoGP and WorldSBK. This deal allows the American media giant to acquire an 84% majority stake in Dorna Sports, leaving the remaining 16% under the stewardship of the existing MotoGP management.

A Transition Set for 2025

The closing of this deal is expected to take place no later than July 3rd, 2025. As the current CEO, Carmelo Ezpeleta, will remain at the helm, this transition aims to ensure stability while integrating Liberty Media’s vision for the sport. With their extensive experience in entertainment and media, Liberty Media is poised to enhance the visibility and outreach of MotoGP on a global scale.
