The BYD Racco: Small Size, Big Ambitions

Say hello to the BYD Racco, the new contender in the world of kei cars, designed specifically for the international market. Measuring a compact 3,395 mm long, 1,475 mm wide, and 1,800 mm tall, it’s like a friendly raccoon that just squeezed into its new snazzy outfit. This electric vehicle (EV) isn’t just about looks; it’s vying for the throne currently held by the best-selling Nissan Sakura EV in Japan.

Battery Power That Packs a Punch!

While the official battery specs are still under wraps, early buzz suggests this cute little KEI might feature a 20 kWh battery. This should provide a range of approximately 180 km (112 miles) on the WLTC cycle. Expect BYD’s popular blade LFP batteries to make an appearance, keeping costs low while still charming potential buyers. It looks like you’re getting more mileage out of that battery than you would at a family reunion whose snacks run out quickly!

Competitive Pricing: BYD’s Ace in the Hole

Expected to launch at around 2.5 million yen (approximately $18,000), the Racco is positioned snugly against the Nissan Sakura. And if you think BYD is alone in this electric kei car race, think again! Honda recently rolled out the N-One, which starts at 2.7 million yen ($18,300). Looks like it’s time for Japanese automakers to tighten their seatbelts because BYD has arrived, and they might just represent the wake-up call that gets everyone buzzing about electric vehicles. Can you say competition?
