The Recall Announcement

Tesla has made headlines again, but this time it’s not for a groundbreaking innovation; it’s for recalling over 10,000 Powerwall units in the U.S. due to a potential fire risk. This follows a similar recall in Australia earlier this year, raising concerns among owners worldwide.

Fires and Overheating Issues

In a notice to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, Tesla acknowledged 22 reports of overheating linked to the affected Powerwall units. Alarmingly, these reports included six instances of smoking and five fires that resulted in minor property damage. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported at this time.

What Should You Do?

So, what does this mean for you as a Powerwall owner? Tesla has proactively begun remotely discharging the affected systems to mitigate the risk of overheating until they can replace the units physically. If you own a Powerwall 2, make sure to check the Tesla app for notifications regarding your system’s status and whether it’s part of the recall.

With safety as Tesla’s priority, they’ve taken steps to address these issues, including developing thermal response trailers to manage overheating problems. Despite these precautions, it’s critical for users to stay informed. The safety of your home is paramount, so keep your Powerwall online and always remain updated on any new developments regarding this recall.
