Chinese automaker BYD is preparing to bring one of its most ambitious electric vehicles to Europe. Under its premium sub-brand Denza, the company has unveiled the Denza Z9 GT, a high-performance electric shooting brake that combines long driving range, extreme charging speeds, and luxury technology.
The Z9 GT is positioned as a flagship model for Denza’s global expansion and is expected to go on sale in Europe starting April 2026. According to BYD, the vehicle showcases the company’s latest battery and charging innovations, including the next-generation Blade Battery 2.0 and ultra-fast Flash Charging system.
A new benchmark for EV range
One of the headline claims surrounding the Z9 GT is its impressive driving range. In China’s CLTC test cycle, the car can travel up to 1,036 km (644 miles) on a single charge. Under the more conservative WLTP standard used in Europe, the rear-wheel-drive version is expected to deliver around 800 km (497 miles).
Those numbers place the Z9 GT among the longest-range electric vehicles currently available. For comparison, the Tesla Model S offers about 634 km (394 miles) WLTP range, while the Porsche Taycan typically reaches around 500–550 km depending on configuration.
Much of that range advantage comes from BYD’s large 122 kWh Blade battery pack, combined with the company’s strong focus on efficiency and power management.

Performance and design
The Denza Z9 GT is also designed to deliver serious performance. The base version uses a rear-mounted electric motor producing 370 kW (496 hp), while the high-performance tri-motor configuration produces an impressive 850 kW (1,140 hp).
With that setup, the Z9 GT can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under three seconds, placing it firmly in the high-performance luxury EV segment alongside models like the Taycan Turbo or Tesla Model S Plaid.
Dimensionally, the car sits in the same class as premium executive vehicles. At 5.2 meters long with a wheelbase of over 3.1 meters, it offers a spacious interior designed to compete with high-end European luxury sedans and grand tourers.
Inside the cabin, BYD is emphasizing a high-end entertainment experience. The Z9 GT will feature an immersive audio system with Dolby Atmos support, designed to create what the company calls an “opera-house level” listening experience.
Ultra-fast charging technology
Perhaps the most notable innovation in the Z9 GT is BYD’s Flash Charging system, capable of delivering up to 1,500 kW of peak charging power. With compatible infrastructure, the car can reportedly recharge from 10% to 70% in just five minutes, or reach nearly a full charge in about nine minutes.
BYD claims the system also performs well in extreme cold conditions, with only a small increase in charging time at temperatures as low as -30°C.
The company has already begun installing Flash Charging stations across China and plans to expand the network internationally, starting with Europe.

Competition in the luxury EV market
When it arrives in Europe, the Denza Z9 GT will compete with several established premium electric vehicles. These include the Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model S, Audi e-tron GT, and upcoming luxury EVs from Mercedes-Benz.
BYD’s competitive advantages appear to be range, charging speed, and aggressive pricing — areas where Chinese EV manufacturers have increasingly challenged traditional Western brands.
Final perspective
The Denza Z9 GT represents an important step in BYD’s strategy to move upmarket and establish itself as a global luxury EV player. With exceptional range, extremely fast charging, and high performance, the car demonstrates how quickly Chinese EV technology is evolving.
However, success in Europe will depend on more than technical specifications. Brand recognition, dealership networks, charging infrastructure, and consumer trust will all play crucial roles in determining whether Denza can truly compete with established European luxury automakers.
