The Honda CR-V compact SUV continues for the 2024 model year with an additional hybrid trim level for a total of three hybrid-only trims along with three conventional gasoline versions.
The redesigned CR-V got a little bigger and roomier and received an upgraded hybrid powertrain for 2023. It also got more tech features and a nicer interior that make it more competitive in a hotly contested SUV class where the last generation had lost a step.

Peppy Turbo, Peppier Hybrid
Two powertrains carry over for 2024. The gasoline-only trims (LX, EX and EX-L) are powered by a 190-horsepower, turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 179 pounds-feet of torque and is mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission. The three hybrid-only trims (Sport, Sport-L and Sport Touring) are more fuel-efficient and more powerful, hence Honda considering them to be the “sportier” versions of the CR-V. The hybrid system uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder and two electric motors for a combined output of 204 hp and 247 pounds-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive are offered on all versions except the top-of-the-line Sport Touring, where AWD is standard.

2024 CR-V Vs. Rivals
EPA combined ratings for the gasoline Honda CR-V, which includes the two least expensive trim levels, match its archrival Toyota RAV4’s gasoline FWD version — the RAV4 also posted a combined rating of 30 mpg; with AWD, the RAV4 gets slightly better fuel economy with up to 30 mpg. Both easily beat the 28 mpg (FWD) and 25 mpg (AWD) combined ratings posted by the 2024 Hyundai Tucson, but they lag the 2023 Nissan Rogue’s 33 mpg (FWD) and 31 mpg (AWD) combined figures. Ratings for the refreshed 2024 Rogue, due on sale early in 2024, have not yet been posted.

2024 CR-V Hybrid Vs. Rivals
The AWD version of the Honda CR-V Hybrid gets 2 mpg less than the RAV4 Hybrid, which comes with standard AWD and is rated up to 39 mpg combined. The AWD-only Tucson Hybrid is rated 37 mpg or 38 mpg combined, depending on trim level. The Rogue does not currently offer a hybrid.

Unlike the CR-V or Rogue, however, the RAV4 and Tucson both offer plug-in hybrid versions. The RAV4 Prime is EPA-rated for 42 miles of all-electric range and 38 mpg combined running as a hybrid, while the Tucson PHEV is rated for 33 miles of electric range and 35 mpg combined when operating as a hybrid.
