Honda recently, Mercedes-Benz is issuing a recall for nearly 80,000 vehicles over a faulty fuel pump that may shut down. The latest recall is an expansion of a June recall that affected some 143,000 vehicles.

Affected vehicles include model-year 2021-24 examples of the C-Class, CLS, S-Class, E-Class and AMG GT 4-Door sedans; E-Class and SL coupes and convertibles; and G-Class, GLC, GLE and GLS SUVs. Due to a deviation in the production process, certain fuel pump impellers might not meet Mercedes’ material requirements; as such, certain batches of fuel delivery modules might not meet the durability properties. What that means to a driver is that the fuel pump may shut down and cause a loss of drive power, which can increase the risk of a crash.

Owners need only have the fuel pump replaced, which dealers will do for free. Mercedes will notify owners Feb. 13, 2024, but those with further questions in the meantime can call the automaker at 800-367-6372, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
