The 2025 Volkswagen ID.7 will arrive at dealerships in the third quarter of 2024.The biggest news in the latest missive is that the ID.7 will be available with all-wheel drive in addition to the base rear-drive form.

Battery and Powertrains
While cheaper versions of the closely related ID.4 electric SUV have a 62-kilowatt-hour battery, all ID.7s will come equipped with the ID.4’s larger pack, which can store 82 kWh. The rear-drive ID.7 uses a single electric motor to generate 282 horsepower and 402 pounds-feet of torque; 4Motion AWD versions add a second motor to the front axle that boosts total output to 335 hp.

Official EPA estimates for the ID.7’s range are not available yet, but with the same battery pack and motors, the ID.4 is rated at 291 miles of range with RWD and 263 miles with AWD. While the sedan’s slipperier 0.23 drag coefficient (versus the ID.4’s 0.28) will help it wring maximum range from the battery pack, it may not end up being much — if at all — lighter than the SUV, as the ID.7 stretches more than a foot longer and a little wider.

Standard Safety Features
VW is positioning the ID.7 as a near-luxury sedan, and standard equipment levels support that. The automaker’s IQ.Drive safety suite is standard across the lineup and includes forward collision warning with pedestrian and bicyclist detection and automatic emergency braking, lane-centering steering, active blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert with automatic braking and hands-on semi-autonomous capability. Not bundled under the IQ.Drive umbrella but also standard on every ID.7 are front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera system and autonomous parking that can store parking maneuvers for specific locations

VW will offer the 2025 ID.7 in two trim levels: Pro S and Pro S Plus. In addition to its standard safety equipment, the Pro S will include 19-inch wheels, a panoramic moonroof with electrochromic tinting glass, illuminated VW badges front and rear, and keyless entry and start. Inside, the Pro S boasts a head-up display, heated steering wheel, heated and massaging front seats, three-zone climate control, ambient lighting and a 15-inch infotainment screen.

Upgrading to the Pro S Plus will net buyers 20-inch wheels, upgraded massage function and ventilation for the front seats, and a 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
