Ford is recalling more than 109,000 Aviator SUVs from its Lincoln luxury sub-brand for a defective rearview camera.

The affected vehicles include model-year 2020-24 Aviators. Electromagnetic signals from a cellphone can interfere with the car’s accessory protocol image module, which can distort the rearview camera image or cause it to flicker. A distorted rearview camera image can reduce rear visibility

Dealers will install APIM shielding for free; Ford advises drivers to not use cellphones while reversing until they receive the remedy.

The automaker will notify vehicle owners July 8, but owners can contact Ford in the meantime at 866-436-7332 (Ford’s number for this recall is 24S35), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
