Affected vehicles include model-year 2022-23 Mustangs. In these cars, the secondary steering torque sensor may have been calibrated incorrectly, causing the steering wheel to turn side to side without any warning when the driver tries to steer. Unintentional steering may cause the vehicle to lose control, increasing the risk of a crash.

As a fix, dealers will update the power steering control module software for free.

Ford will notify owners Aug. 5, but those with further questions can contact the automaker at 866-436-7332 (Ford’s number for this recall is 24S44), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
