The Electrification of the Kia Pride

The Kia Pride, often seen as a heroically boring model, has recently undergone an electrifying transformation. This restomod project showcases the innovative capabilities of Kia UK, in collaboration with Oxfordshire-based Electrogenic. The Pride EV, introduced to mark Kia’s 80th anniversary, exemplifies how classic vehicles can be rejuvenated with modern technology while honoring their heritage.

Christian von Koenigsegg’s Perspective

Christian von Koenigsegg, a prominent figure in the hypercar industry, has openly expressed his reservations about restomods. His focus on pushing the boundaries of modern hypercars is well-known. However, this electrified Kia Pride might just be the project that changes his mind. With its design aimed at providing an engaging driving experience reminiscent of early hot hatches, it embodies a blend of nostalgia and innovation that could appeal to even the most skeptical enthusiasts.

Specifications and Performance Enhancements

The foundation of this restomod was a ‘kingfisher blue’ five-door 1996 Kia Pride 1.3 LX from Kia’s heritage fleet. Originally equipped with a modest four-cylinder engine producing 60bhp and 87lb ft of torque, the new electric motor offers a significant upgrade. Now delivering up to 107bhp and 173lb ft of torque, the Pride EV promises a spirited drive, invigorating the concept of what a small hatchback can deliver. This remarkable transformation not only revives a retro classic but also sets a new standard for future restomod projects.
