Volkswagen Recall Details

Volkswagen is initiating a significant recall for over 177,000 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs from the model years 2024-2025. The primary concern arises from a defect surrounding the engine cover, which may become loose and could potentially melt upon contact with hot engine surfaces. This situation poses an elevated risk of fire, prompting the company to take swift action.

Identified Issue with the Engine Cover

The crucial problem lies in the assembly of the engine cover. Reports suggest that it may have been improperly installed during maintenance or service. A loose engine cover can increase the likelihood of it contacting hot portions of the engine, leading to the risk of melting. Volkswagen has prioritized the safety of its customers, thus resulting in this proactive recall measure.

Next Steps for Affected Vehicle Owners

For those who own one of the affected vehicles, Volkswagen will facilitate free removal of the engine cover to eliminate the potential risk. Owners can expect notification letters to be mailed out by April 18. In the meantime, any further inquiries can be directed to Volkswagen’s dedicated recall hotline at 800-893-5298. Additionally, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) offers assistance through its vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, along with the option to visit their website for additional information using the vehicle identification number.
