Introduction to the Updated VW Grand California

After five years since our last life-test of the VW Grand California, this beloved van-based motorhome has received an exciting refresh. The newest model boasts a range of technological enhancements while altering the engine lineup to be more environmentally friendly. However, the question remains: is this change a blessing or a drawback?

Changes in Power and Engines

The most notable alteration comes under the hood. The 175bhp output of the previous 2.0-litre diesel engine has been decreased to 161bhp. This reduction aligns the model with Euro VI emissions standards, contributing to better air quality and sustainability efforts. Both the front-wheel drive (FWD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) versions will see this reduction, but thankfully, torque remains steady at 302 lb-ft. This ensures that, despite the drop in power, the Grand California can still navigate challenging terrains with ease.

New Technological Features

On the technology front, the VW Grand California has made significant strides. A new 10-inch infotainment screen replaces the previous eight-inch model, providing a more user-friendly interface. Advanced driver assistance features now include drowsiness alerts and road sign recognition, promoting safer driving experiences for those adventurous explorers. Furthermore, there’s full integration with the latest app connect features, making it easier than ever to stay connected on the road. Overall, this update reflects VW’s commitment to merging comfort with state-of-the-art technology.
