Overview of the Recall

Ford is conducting a significant recall involving more than 105,300 Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs. This precautionary measure targets vehicles manufactured in model years 2018 to 2020. The recall focuses on a notable defect in the seat belt pretensioner, a critical safety component designed to ensure proper seat belt functionality.

Nature of the Defect

The primary issue identified pertains to the seat belt pretensioner, which may inadvertently lock, preventing the seat belt from retracting or extending as intended. This malfunction poses a severe risk, as a seat belt that does not work effectively could fail to restrain passengers during a collision. Such failures could lead to an increased risk of injury, underscoring the importance of this recall.

What Affected Owners Should Do

Ford will rectify the issue by inspecting the seat belt retractor date codes and replacing the seat belt retractors where necessary, at no cost to the vehicle owner. Notification letters regarding this recall are expected to be mailed out by April 14. Additionally, it has been noted that some vehicles included in previous recalls may require further attention due to incorrect earlier repairs.

For any questions, affected owners can reach out to Ford at 866-436-7332, using recall number 25S31, or contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236. Owners are also encouraged to check their vehicle identification number on the NHTSA’s website for more detailed information.
